This Black woman-owned digital platform is revolutionizing wellness in the workplace

DURHAMNaya Powell knows work burnout firsthand. After years working in the talent acquisition space for companies like Red Hat and IBM, she felt stressed and depleted. Perhaps more importantly, she recognized others were having the same experiences.

That’s when she decided to launch Utopia Spa and Global Wellness (Utopia SGW), formerly Spa Utopia Inc., in 2021. Initially, the company provided on-demand wellness services for businesses and corporations. After a pandemic pivot, it is relaunched as a business-to-business digital wellness subscription platform addressing global burnout, and the future of work.

Today, it offers virtual live and on-demand “globally relevant” wellness experiences, including mindfulness, yoga, pilates, cultural movement, wellness and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) coaching/workshops, and retreats, virtual and global in person.

WRAL TechWire’s Chantal Allam recently had the chance to sit down with Powell to discuss her vision for the future of work and wellness. Here’s what she

Attaining and maintaining a healthy weight is a major health issue, not only in the United States but in many countries throughout the world. Governments are looking to identify the most effective services to support people to lose weight and improve overall health. A recent systematic review and meta-analysis (a larger study of studies) examined the effectiveness of weight management interventions delivered in primary care settings, and included data from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Spain.

Looking at weight loss support in primary care

Researchers evaluated 34 studies with adults who had a body mass index greater than 25 (overweight). They looked at people who received weight loss interventions within primary care settings. The interventions included instruction on weight management behaviors such as low-calorie diets, increased exercise, use of food diaries, and/or behavioral self-management approaches with support

‘This should not be normalised’: Why musicians are canceling tours to protect their mental health | Music

In early August, Yard Act were at Stansted airport, waiting for a flight to Sicily, when singer James Smith hit a wall. “It felt as if I was in a cattle shed,” he says. “I was banging my head against the table saying: ‘I can’t do this any more.’”

Since the Leeds post-punk band released their debut album, The Overload, in January, their touring schedule had been relentless. Critical acclaim and a Mercury nomination had only amplified the pressure – bigger bookings kept coming, and the band was determined to play them all. “That weekend we were playing a castle with The Flaming Lips,” Smith says. “It was a dream come true. You feel ungrateful saying you can’t do it.”

Bill Belichick marveled at Vince Wilfork’s weight loss: ‘What the f–k’?

Vince Wilfork is looking svelte, and Bill Belichick took notice.

Wilfork is getting inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame on Saturday. There were Thursday night festivities where he tried on his red blazer to commemorate the occasion, and the world marveled at how trim he looked.

The former NFL defensive tackle’s listed playing weight was 325 pounds, but he certainly appears to have dropped a hefty portion of that.

Wilfork revealed that Belichick approached him in Miami last year before a Patriots-Dolphins game and his former coach couldn’t believe what he saw.

“Bill was being Bill. He was on his treadmill working out, and I was like, ‘I want to go see Coach,’” Wilfork recalled. “He’s on the treadmill working out, and I come in and he’s like, ‘What the f—?’ What??’” Wilfork said, according to NBC Sports Boston.
