Oklahoma Highway Patrol Rolls Out First Responder Wellness Division

A new program is paving the way for first responders to receive mental health counseling whenever they want.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol said troopers now have access to six free counseling sessions a year. They said it’s all part of a new groundbreaking program called the Oklahoma First Responder Wellness Division.

Danny Long has been with the OHP for more than 20 years. He said it’s common for troopers to feel “Superhuman.”

“Too many times we believe we’re the fixers. We show up on scene and we try to fix the situation. We fixed the scene. We see trauma on a daily basis, we hear trauma on a daily basis, let’s get rid of that trauma so we don’t have a problem with overflow,” Long said.

Long said he knows first-hand that not dealing with traumatic experiences can bleed into your personal life.

Increase in LED lighting ‘risks harming human and animal health’ | Environment

Blue light from artificial sources is on the rise, which may have negative consequences for human health and the wider environment, according to a study.

Academics at the University of Exeter have identified a shift in the kind of lighting technologies European countries are using at night to brighten streets and buildings. Using images produced by the International Space Station (ISS), they have found that the orange-colored emissions from older sodium lights are rapidly being replaced by white-colored emissions produced by LEDs.

While LED lighting is more energy-efficient and costs less to run, the researchers say the increased blue light radiation associated with it is causing “substantial biological impacts” across the continent.
